Muscle power, the ability to produce force quickly, fades faster with age than raw strength, and power is what actually gets you out of a low chair and off the floor. So on part of your strength training, move the weight fast on the way up.
The fibers you lose first are the fast-twitch ones built for speed. That is why slow lifts and grip can hold up while the quick, catch-yourself movements, rising, climbing, reacting, quietly get harder.
Your bone density has a sleep variable and almost no one checks it

The Women’s Health Initiative followed 11,084 postmenopausal women and compared those sleeping five hours or less a night against those sleeping seven.
The short sleepers had lower bone mineral density at all four sites measured. Whole body, total hip, femoral neck, and spine.
They also had 22 percent higher odds of low bone mass and 63 percent higher odds of hip osteoporosis.
This is observational data, so it shows association and not cause. It is also the largest set of numbers available on this question in women past menopause.
Bring both things to your next appointment. Ask for a DEXA referral if you have not had one, and tell your doctor how many hours you are actually sleeping, because the intake form will not ask.

In older adults, muscle power tracks everyday function like standing from a chair and climbing stairs. Training specifically for speed, not only for load, targets the exact capacity that keeps you independent.
Be clear on the evidence. Trials of high-velocity resistance training in older adults consistently improve power and physical function, though much of that research runs in mixed groups and often in people over sixty-five, and the ideal load is still debated.
The execution is a specific tempo. Use a load you can control and still move quickly, often a moderate weight rather than your heaviest, drive it up in about a second, then lower it over two to three seconds.
Apply it to safe, joint-friendly movements. Sit-to-stands, leg presses, step-ups, and chest presses work well, for six to ten fast reps, two or three sets, a couple of times a week.
This does not replace heavy lifting, it complements it. Keep some slow, heavy work for bone and maximal strength, and add the fast intent on the lighter days.
Protect yourself while you train speed. Master the movement slowly first, keep the lowering phase controlled, and skip explosive loading on a joint that is painful or unstable.
Strength gets the weight up, but power gets you up off the floor at eighty. Add speed to the lifting phase this week, because independence rides on a quality that ordinary training ignores.
